Quarterly Economic Survey

Stats imageThe Quarterly Economic Survey for Quarter 3 2010 will be available from 30th August.

The Quarterly Economic Survey is the largest business survey of its kind in the UK. The information you provide enables us to gauge local business confidence and serve you in the most productive way. It is particularly important in the current economic climate that the issues and concerns of businesses are accurately represented so they can inform the development of regional and national economic policy.

Your feedback is essential not only to understand the views of business in the local area but is also used nationally, with both the Bank of England and Treasury using the results to gauge business sentiment.

Please endeavour to complete the survey. It will take less than four minutes to complete.

If you do not receive a survey and would like one, please email: swcc.qes@thethirdstage.com.

Win a trip to the European Parliament of Enterprises

On October 14th, over 700 entrepreneurs will descend on the European Parliament to put business at the top of the agenda.

The 2010 European Parliament of Enterprises (EPE) brings together hundreds of business men and women from across the EU to debate and vote on hot business issues. Sitting in the Parliament's hemicycle, national delegations from across the EU's 27 member states will be joined by senior officials such as:

  • Jerzy Buzek, President of the European Parliament;
  • Hermann Van Rompuy, President of the European Council and
  • Jose Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission.

The British delegation will also have the opportunity to take part in a Q&A with the BBC's chief European correspondent, Gavin Hewitt, and lunch with the UK's most senior official to the EU, Kim Darroch.

One lucky entrepreneur will have all their travel and accommodation covered by the BCC as all participants will be automatically entered into a prize draw. So please do sign up to this exciting opportunity. For further details or to register click here - or contact Kieran O'Keeffe.

Paye As You Earn Consultation

question marksThe Treasury has introduced a consultation on the Pay As You Earn (PAYE) system.

The Government is exploring the option to move towards a system that receives information on deductions in real time.

The Treasury believes that the new system may result in less forms being submitted and reduce the burden of year end reporting. The consultation is looking for those who run PAYE schemes, providers of payroll software and services, and employers to respond.

The BCC is also looking to respond. To do so, we would like employer examples of the burden that they currently face with the PAYE system. If you have any information on this, please contact Steve Hughes.

BBC X-Ray Programme

Researchers from the BBC One Wales X-Ray Programme are currently looking for participants in their next series.

The series will feature a strand called The Street where the show gets to know the residents over the weeks - this time the issue will be unemployment.  Participants must be currently unemployed and the programme will be looking at how to increase their employability along with what their needs are and whether they are being met - i.e. access to work experience, training etc.

In addition to this researchers will be interested to hear about success stories and from experts or mentors to feature in the programme.

If you think you can help please contact Claire Hill on 029 2032 3786.
